I have a passion for storytelling. Period. The reasons for this are philosophical. When I was young, I was obsessed with religion, punk rock, women, skateboarding, acceptance, drinking, drugs, crime, general rebellion, and existential angst. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I have been on a quest for the meaning of life.
For years, I pushed the boundaries of my existence to find the edges. Through this desire for meaning and purpose, I stumbled into the world of writing. Ever since I discovered the cathartic effects of writing in my journal, I have sought ways to understand and articulate the human experience.
Through this reflective journey, I found my way to writing, filmmaking, and Los Angeles. Writing and the pursuit of story even brought me back to school to study literature and film.
My industry work has been limited thus far. After moving to LA, I was anxious to work and began to hustle. Surprisingly, or maybe not, there was some traction regarding my work and interest in some of my scripts. I soon concluded that this was an all-encompassing endeavor and that I could not finish my formal education and pursue my screenwriting dreams at the same time. Therefore, I decided to postpone any writing projects until I finished school. I graduate this summer.
During my journey, I began listening to podcasts incessantly about writing in general, screenwriting, and filmmaking to learn as much as I could about the storytelling process. Some of these podcasts provided inspiration and insight into storytelling. Others provided detailed craft techniques that cultivate story effectiveness, while still others provided movie-making entertainment.
The purpose of my podcast list is to provide direction to those called the screenwriting craft through the vast information landscape of the podcast world.
My first project after graduation is a true crime story in the 1930s.
